"Kindness to animals helps build a better world for all of us." That is the philosophy at Best Friends Animal Society. When I heard about Best Friends several years ago, I thought it was such a special place and wanted to support it. Lately, I've been donating to Rolling Dog Ranch [now renamed Rolling Dog Farm], just because I've fallen in love with that place. I haven't been there, but I love what I've seen and read about it, and I love how much they love the animals they care for. Check out their blog and you'll see what I mean...it really is a special place!
A portion of each sale will be donated, and the donation amount for each item in the Etsy shop is mentioned at the beginning of each item listing. More info can also be found in the Etsy shop announcement. So no matter what you purchase from Humblechan, something is going towards helping animals who deserve nothing less than a great life. Donations will be made when the amount reaches about $50.
If you don't find anything in the shop that interests you, please consider making a direct donation to an animal organization. Any little bit helps!
Below is a list of the donations made so far -- this includes monetary donations and donations of goods.
May 2011:
50 small craft supply items [i.e. small stamps, stickers, packs of ribbon] were sent to SASHA Farm for their fundraising yard sale.
On April 11th, 2011:
$200.00 was donated to Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support.
February 2011:
9 stamp sets were sent to SASHA Farm for their annual fundraising auction.
On December 25th, 2010:
$100.00 was donated to Rolling Dog Ranch Animal Sanctuary [www.rollingdogranch.org].
[$25.40 USD was raised in donations through our Etsy shop, $57.00 CAD was raised from a craft supply sale off-Etsy, and the remaining amount to bring it to $100.00 USD was just because]
On October 31st, 2010:
$125.50 was donated to Rolling Dog Ranch Animal Sanctuary from a craft supply sale off-Etsy.

$25.00 was donated to SASHA Farm, thanks to the purchase of this Hundred Percent Donation item! I actually sold this item as part of a craft supply sale off-Etsy to raise money for Rolling Dog Ranch, but I wanted to follow through with my promise to SASHA Farm as well as my promise to Rolling Dog Ranch, so I've donated the $25.00 to SASHA Farm and also made the full craft supply sale donation to Rolling Dog Ranch -- see next donation note above!
October 2010:
About a carload of new and gently-used items were donated to Speaking of Dogs for their Holiday fundraising auction [some of these items are being saved for the Spring fundraising auction].
Also, 80 handmade mini thank you cards were donated, to be given to the auction winners.
Update Nov. 2010: The items I donated that were included in the Holiday auction brought in a total of $496.00 CAD for Speaking of Dogs! I'm really, really happy about this because I wasn't exactly sure how well the types of stuff I donated would do!
On July 23rd, 2010:

$55.00 CAD was donated to WSPA Canada to help the animals in Haiti [www.wspa.ca].
[$31.00 was raised -- this donation was 'sitting' for a while because I had not updated the shop for quite some time, so I decided not to wait until it reached $50 USD -- the extra $5 CAD was so I would at least be donating the equivalent of $50 USD]
On June 6th, 2010:
$50.00 was donated to Best Friends Animal Society [www.bestfriends.org].

On February 27th, 2010:
$250.00 was donated to SASHA Farm, thanks to the purchase of this Hundred Percent Donation item in the Etsy shop, as well as many craft supplies sold off-Etsy!

This is our largest donation so far, and hopefully large donations like this can be made in the future!

$53.00 was donated to Angel's Gate as part of a second fundraising effort in the Etsy shop consisting of items in the Hundred Percent Donation shop section.

$50.00 worth of merchandise was purchased from The SASHA Store, which directly benefits SASHA Farm -- the items will be offered in donation-raising gift sets in the future!

Update Dec. 2009: My apologies, I know it has taken me an embarrassingly long time to get to these donation-raising gift sets, but instead of gift sets, I'll be listing large clearance lots of craft supplies in the Etsy shop as donation-raising items [each lot will include a SASHA Farm t-shirt purchased back in 2008!] -- look for these in the Etsy shop before the year is through!
Further Update Dec. 2009: Finally! The donation items for SASHA Farm can be found here, here, and here. My apologies again for taking so long with this! I don't think I'll be trying this again since it took me such an awfully long time to get my act together [yeesh!]. Direct monetary donations from now on [other than donations of handmade goods, of course]!
